Resolved Question: Does anyone have a Freshwater Green Sunfish?

Posted on December 17, 2008 in Sharks freshwater aquarium

So anyhow I was wondering if anyone else had one and some of there behaviors are etc. So far I have found that it was very shy at first, then mildy agressive and now is aggressive and will eat anything is can fit in its mouth. Replies are appreciated thanks! Thanks for the info!! I have a lot of experience with all kinds of freshwater fish and some saltwater; banned shark, grouper, clown etc, but i've never owned a freshwater green sunfish. I was just wondering if anyone here has a green sunfish. When I put them into my within minutes they started locking jaws like a Cichlid does and I had to quickly take one out . I found them at walmart mixed in with some comets, no one knew what they were at walmart but I did some research when I got home and found out its a "green sunfish". It also will not anything but frozen foods its very picky! Yeah I thought about legal stuff to. I still haven't seen anything about it being illegal where I live but I will be aware of it. Although I find it very odd that you could eat one, but not keep one as pet.....strange hahahaha.I bought it at a walmart near my house, the girl said that they get them all the time in with the feeder goldfish, so she just charged me that price (she didn;t know what is was and at the time I did either). I didn't see anything about it where I live. I've had the one in my tank for about a month & a half and its growing fast. Hi! I have 2 one that lives in a aquarium inside and the other outside a pond. Resolved Question: I am a novice to freshwater aquariums, would like to have rainbow shark, please advice on tank mates.?

Resolved Question: What can I do with my melanochromis auratus?

Posted on December 14, 2008 in Aquarium supplies

Is it steady safe for me to keep a cichlid in a 10 gallon tank? My highest priority is the wellfare of my fish- I will do what requirements to be all in.I have a full set of supplies for a 10 gallon aquarium sitting nearby, and since I am in elevated School and outdoors more proceeds than a $10/week allowance, I would rather not have to buy a bigger tank.My question is, do you have any better ideas, or any improvements/advice on my rampant ideas? I have only lost 1 fish to him so far, but now that he has started focusing his efforts on my Pseudotropheus Lombardo, I have moved him (as a temporary arrangement) into a teeny breeder net in a corner of that tank. The tank itself is 55 gallons, with an undergravel filter. As well as the Melanochromis Auratus, I have the aforementioned Pseudotropheus Lombardo, a Labidochromis Caeruleus, some sort of albino, a Livingstonii, a Kribensis(who is deed handsome despite subsistence out of place), and a spotted Raphael Catfish.I have reviewed my options, and feel that I could try to give him to a select fish fountain, I could try rearranging the tank whenever factors get too bad and put him temporarily in someone else tank, or I could put him permanently in one more tank. I was one of those unsuspecting aquarists who bought the 'assorted african cichlids,' and now I have an aggressive melanochromis auratus that has latterly changed sex and started his reign of terror.

Open Question: Where can I get cool, small fish tank decorations and silk plants?

Posted on December 13, 2008 in Fake fish tank

I have obsolescent to Petco, Petsmart, and addition limited wares in my area and whatever I thought was nice is in my . I am seeing for relatively inconsequential stuff since not only is it a 5 gallon but it's divided. I would fix upon gyp since I am botanically challenged and green features contribute to die under my care. Where can I go to catch Betta-safe elements that would look splendid in there? I'm thinking about adding some java moss though. But two spurious plants and two tiny decorations definitely aren't last straw! Open Question: Guppy VS Guppy: Aggressive behavior? He says I ache for 4 or 5 tall pretender plants to put in there so they can hide/play/define territory from each added.I feel parallel they're aggressive seeing the tank has not completed it's cycle and the water is unstable leading to altitudinous stress.Should I be concerned with that tremendous supine of aggressiveness?Any fish you put in to a new tank is considered a probation fish big game it's ultimate disposed going to stress out and die. I put nine in the tank, one of which stressed out and died and the something else two are still alive. that is the runnerup batch of 3 guppies I have put in to the tank (of totality the first nine died) and the likewise thing happened with those guppies. My friend says it's all about territory. I have dinosaur sourcing a new tank for about 3 weeks now so my nitrate cycle is about half way complete. I'm not "cruel" to fish. Her tail has almost completely archaic ripped apart done with the last 4 days. I understand that the few fish that I put in there will max acceptable die owing to of that. However, my "test guppies" are highly aggressive to each more. The one young female guppy is completely beating up the older and very pregnant guppy. I have a 10g with 4 plants that are 3-4 inches high rise but no tall plants.

Resolved Question: What is wrong with this Beta?

Posted on December 12, 2008 in How to take care of goldfish

Please succor, I don't hunger my brothers first fish to be a disappointment.I too do a 25% water quarters one now and then 2 weeks and a 75% water pennies occasionally year.Ok guys i realize my fluff, i'll go buy a 10gal with a heater 2mrw morn to keep that guy alive. He has outworn floating near the top of the at the side only moving for air or food. =] My little brother bought a beta a few weeks ago and has obsolescent keeping him in a petty beta bowl. I be schooled a beta requirements a lot more room than a medium goldfish sized bowl but he's a beginner and i appetite him to get used to taking care of him before i move it to my tank. It's getting cold lately and my tank have old hat falling into th 72 space range is it that or aloof a phase betas go through. Anyways, a few days ago the beta started scrunching up his fins which he normally spreads and flares to my added fish in a tank next to his. It additionally seems that whenever he tries to swim down he is pulled back up. Voting Question: What do I do now?...? I really could care excepting if it died...I figured since the black one had died (jumped out from its "transport cup" from my school to domicile that the orange one wouldn't be as aggressive. Should I first insist that petco take their fish back or what? I don't comprehend what to do. I removed him and put him in the goldfish tank (probably giving him shock?) but I had to separate them. I asked back a while ago before they became that aggressive. He was pounding himself against the minnows and nipping the tetras and they couldn't do anything. that is almost as aggressive as they were at school, except he hasn't managed to kill them yet. For a while all I noticed was evermore once in a while the orange molly would chase the others and nip them but now it was non-stop. I necessity to post a "free molly fish" post on craigslist and my mom said I could. I put him in the 29 gallon. (They were mine first but I gave them to my teacher..they had not killed any fish yet but were somewhat aggressive to my betta--but I was inclined it back for it killed 5 of her 8 fish. I had two aggressive mollies, one orange one and one black one. It's not suitable for him though whereas the tempurature.I'm not buying any new tank and he is not going in the 1 gallon as it's way way to runty.

It's funny how my angel fishes are bullying the oscars. Or should I just keep the gold fishes? Is there a possibility that they will get along just fine?Lastly, what good, colorful can I keep in a 10-gallon tank? I have a 10 gallon tank, keeping in it are 2 goldfish, 2 angel fish, 2 oscars & 2 janitor fish, I am to get rid of the oscars as I have found out that they are aggressive and territorial, most probably I will also get rid of the gold fish as they can not be in the same tank with an angel fish nor with a janitor fish for the latter are tropical fishes. Resolved Question: Lighting system for my 150 gallon tank? What about this? What do you think about the ones from my link, I have a canopy to install them on, but I don't know how that works, and I'm afraid it may catch fire or something with the heat from the lights. Again I'm not knowledgable on these types of lighting systems. If you have suggestions on a lighting system or fish to include, web links would be greatly appreciated.I like those lights too greg, but it would be $400 to use them for my 6' foot long tank. It says it's a kit and comes with everything you need. http://www.petmountain.com/product/retrofit-kits/504824/current-usa-nova-t5-retrofit-460nm-actinic-slimpaq.html I also have a canopy for my tank, it looks like this gets installed to the top of it?I am converting my tank from goldfish (my giant pl*cos killed all my goldfish, they have since found a home with some oscars) to a lush very colorful tropical tank of fake plants, tetras, barbs, corys, and otos. I don't have much money, about $300. what should I get? I'll need 2-36" sets for my 6' long tank. I'm in the market for a new lighting system. Even though I'm using fake plants, I want in to look as natural as possible. But it looks too good to be true.

Resolved Question: How do I keep the pH level down in my aquarium?

Posted on December 09, 2008 in Tropical fish algae eaters

the filter is a combo charcoal / sponge / biomass device.Any assist would be greatly appreciated. My is a fifteen gallon brand-new water tropical with an external side mounted filter. I scrupulous moved from one stomping grounds to something else and all forth the move, all my fish died except one Algae eater. Both at the old home plate and the new layout, the tap water tests at a pH leveled of about 7.2, but in my tank, the pH can get as hovering as 9. Resolved Question: What to put in a 55gallon aquarium? If I do tropical I want1 albino senegal bichir for changeless (I had one a while ago, and loved him...My hubby wants the sharks, but they do better in schools and I virtuous don't think over a 55 is big replete. The tank along came with 2 big mollies and 3 sets of their fry, but I have them in a smaller tank right now b/c the 55 was originally intended as a cichlid tank. Kissing gouramis can get aggressive.Anybody have any suggestions on what combinations of those guys I can/should get? Thanks all.And what about african dwarf frogs? I was still cosidering either an albino or gold veil angel, a couple half banded loaches, a green phantom pleco, kissing pink or green gouramis, silver dollars, or bala sharks. There are all nonagressive fish, and as I made the extra effort to habitus positive food got to the bottom of the tank for them...then i had to move cross country...So I might contract in my oscar at the fish treasure for some tropicals. Well I bought myself a 55gallon that pod auger weekend that is currently hangout to 2 cory cats and 2 decent sized chinese algae eaters. The oscar is in his own seperate tank for that deduction. I've heard that about the algae eaters before, but I got them with the tank so I really didn't have a choice with those.I have a little oscar, and originate these gorgeous convicts at the pet shop (a mated pair actually). But, I feel bad keeping the mollies in a small-scale tank. ).
